The Princess is Going on Strike - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The most important thing I need right now is money. I need a way for me to collect money without being noticed by the Brixia Family. Oledin, being the careless man that he is, had no idea how the wealth of the family circulated. All he did was throw the documents at me and told me to take care of it whenever it got too complicated for him to do. Because of that, I knew exactly how money flowed and could easily take a portion of the profits without him realizing it. The problem was how to get that money in my hands.
I tapped the desk with the pen a few times and thought about a few of the events that would happen in the future. The most memorable event that came up in my mind was the creation of the Knights of the Imperial Guard. The knightage was led by the Crown Prince and was made up of the most talented knights, including Velfor. This was the time when equipment quality became a problem, which turned out to be troublesome, but profit can definitely be made. The equipment needed to be lightweight, durable, but also impressive. Naturally, this was the Brixia’s Family business, but the Imperial Family put the commission up for auction. Even so, the Brixia Family was so powerful that other families and guilds did not dare to participate in it, but if Velfor’s case becomes public, then an opportunity may present itself.
If I use that chance then I might have a chance of winning the auction.
I glanced at the ledgers that I brought with me. The banquet wasn’t that important to me. It was more important for me to take care of myself while the incompetent duke enjoyed was enjoying his debauchery life.
The evening passed and as soon as the next morning dawned, the door burst open. Although I had already washed up and sat in front of my desk, I wasn’t happy with the appearance of the uninvited guest. I put on my mask and turned my head towards the door. The person who entered was Asterin. She had a book in her hand which she slammed down on my desk with a fierce gaze.
[Bam!]
Is she still working on her assignment here?
“Take responsibility.”
It was unbelievable that she told me to take responsibility. I looked at the book she placed on my desk then back up at her as Asterin screamed at me with a flushed face.
“I said that you need to take responsibility!”
Not only was I upset with seeing a face I didn’t want to first thing in the morning, but it made my mood even worse when she spoke those words. I stood up from my seat. As I was much taller than Asterin, I naturally looked down on her. I thought she’d flinch and step away from me, but she boldly looked back at me.
“You messed everything up. What’re you going to do to fix it? Huh?!”
“What did I do?”
“What? Are you seriously asking me that…..?”
“Then do you think it’s polite to barge into someone else’s room early in the morning without permission and yell at them about taking responsibility?”
Asterin opened her mouth as if to say something, then closed it and squinted her eyes. Perhaps it was because she had a small brain, but she only started to speak after a short pause.
“Did you finish what I asked you to do previously?”
“What? Oh, the assignment? Of course not. There’s no reason why I should do it.”
“But I told you to do it. Don’t you remember?”
“I do.”
My curt reply caused her to snort in response. Asterin placed her hands on her waist and gave an expression to show her anger, but then tilted her head in confusion when I clicked my tongue behind my mask. In the past, I would’ve bowed my head right away so that I wouldn’t be hated. This was especially so, since Oledin adored Asterin, despite her idiocy. She was affectionate and affable which caused him to greatly favor her. So whatever small mistake I made always found its way to Oledin’s ears causing the two to spit endless insults at me in retaliation.
But now that I no longer desired their love or attention, it was only annoying and unpleasant.
To think that they still treat me like a servant…..
Seeing as how things weren’t going her way, Asterin crossed her arms and gave a friendly expression to change the atmosphere.
“I’m really upset. Don’t you know how much I care about you? I even begged Dad to bring you here to the banquet. Yet, you’re saying you can’t help me with this assignment? This is something you should do. Plus, you’re the one who gave the report card to Mom, right?”
“No, I threw it away.”
“Why?!”
“Then should I have brought it to the Duchess right away? I’m sure that I threw it away in the trash, but it looks like it was found and handed over to the Duchess by a servant. What else was I supposed to do with it?”
“You should’ve at least torn it up…..”
“Didn’t you give it to me to look at? That’s why I thought it didn’t matter if anyone else saw it.”
Hearing my curt reply, Asterin gaped at me with a dumbfounded expression and blinked a few times. Sensing the difference in the atmosphere, she rolled her eyes and began to approach me more aggressively.
“If you keep this up, then I’ll tell Dad not to let you attend the banquet.”
It’s unbelievable that a full-grown 18-year-old would still be a snitch. Asterin may come from a prestigious family and have a beautiful appearance, but is still childish and very unsophisticated.
I don’t know who’ll marry this woman, but I truly feel sorry for him.
Perhaps it’s because Oledin would always bribe the teachers behind the scenes whenever Asterin would be struggling, since she was young.
This is the reason why nobles have such advanced education. No matter how expensive and fancy the clothes and jewelry you wear, it doesn’t hide the fact that you’re an idiot.
“Fine. Do that, then.”
“Now that you get it, then….. What?”
“I don’t need to attend the banquet, so you can go tell him. I don’t really care.”
In fact, I’d be more grateful if you did that.
Attending the banquet would be unpleasant, so I had nothing to lose if Asterin stepped up and helped me out. She blinked her eyes with a dazed expression, staring at me, as I placed the book back in her hand.
“You should probably finish the assignment before the evening banquet tonight.”
I started pushing Asterin out the door which was still open when she tried to make a final effort to convince me.
“How dare you do this to your older sister…..!”
“Don’t act like a big sister when we’re only two months apart. We’ll be the same age once my birthday passes.”
With that, I closed the door with a smile.
