The Princess is Going on Strike - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“Ah…..”
I wanted to say something but no words would come out. The discoloration on my face was like hell. My face which was covered by a patchy spot and my red eyes which I had since birth were symbols of evil and the devil for the people of this world. Even those who see it for the first time would frown, but the spot which I had for decades was now gone.
“Why?”
My happiness was only momentary as I started to have doubts.
Why did my discoloration suddenly disappear? I didn’t use magic or take any medicine.
No matter what I tried, nothing worked to get rid of it. Which is why I gave up and thought that I had to live with it for the rest of my life….. So it was understandable why I was so shocked to see it completely disappear. Then it led me to believe that I might’ve caught some terminal disease and checked all over my body, when I realized that my hand felt empty.
Sebeth Ludin’s ring is gone.
Sebeth Ludin was called the Sage of the Century and he had told me to wear the ring at all times saying that it would protect me. Of course, the ring had no magic or special ability embedded into it. It was only a kind of talisman.
I caressed the finger with the impression and tried to remember where I put the ring.
It was something that I always wore even when I washed up, so why did it suddenly disappear? Did I take it off and leave it somewhere?
I walked back to my bed, picked up the pillows, and removed the blanket, but no ring could be seen.
‘Where in the world did it go?’
{You were wrong.}
Standing still, the scene right before my death came to my mind. In the end, I hated and despised him, and repeatedly screamed that he was wrong…..
Is that why I took off the ring? Or was it really a talisman?
I took a deep breath so that it would help me adapt to the changed situation.
First of all, I don’t know what’s going on, but I know that this is the past since Nanny Aubera is still alive. Also, the ring and my spot have both disappeared. That much was clear. What else? What else has chang-
As I was organizing my thoughts, I heard footsteps which sounded heavy and violent. I sighed as they were familiar and covered my face again with my mask just as the door flew open.
“Aerylle!”
A fool who calls my name despite hoping not to be cursed by doing so. This man, who was looking at me with anger, was the head of the Brixia family and someone I once wanted to be loved and acknowledged by.
I gave him a slight nod.
“Good morning.”
“What are you doing? I heard you’re sick.”
“Yes, I do not feel well…..”
“It’s surprising to hear that even a monster like you can get sick.”
Is a man who casually calls his daughter a monster and criticizes her truly deserving to be called a father? Other people know Oledin, the head of the Brixia family, as a fairly humane person. That he isn’t confined to authority and knows how to show kindness to others.
Bullshit. He’s arrogant, despicable, and hid his incompetence by robbing others.
The only reason why he became the head of the family was not because of his ability to do so, but the fact that he was hiding while his brothers were fighting for the position and was lucky enough to be the last surviving heir.
To think that others praise him to be a good duke.
I laughed behind my mask.
“But I’m a person.”
“I don’t have the habit of hearing you give snide remarks so early in the morning. I’m sure you know exactly what your father likes, so why are you behaving like this today?”
I stared at him.
That’s right. I once tried to do everything to be recognized by this man. But whether it was pain, sadness, or suffering….. None of these emotions moved this man. He never greeted me with a smile and I was nothing but a freeloader to him, baggage. Still, I believed that he would recognize me one day. But…..
24 years later I realized that was near impossible. The Aerylle Frey Brixia of the past was a fool and died in exchange for trusting her family.
I don’t want his warmth anymore.
“Get ready quickly. Sir Velfor will be arriving soon, so make sure to receive him well.”
He took a step closer and pointed at me. He looked at me down then up.
“If you do a good job this time, I’ll consider taking you to the banquet.”
The banquet? I smirked.
Sir Velfor was a knight who frequently visited the mansion and since it was common for Oledin to lose his temper with me, I couldn’t tell exactly what point in time it was before….. But it looks like this useless old man has finally become useful for the first time.
7 years ago, Oledin took me along to a banquet for the first time when he would normally leave me alone at the mansion. I was so excited while wearing my dress, accessories, and a pretty mask. That young 17-year-old girl thought that she had finally been recognized by the family. But that was a mistake. I clenched my fists and held back my anger and the swear words that I wanted to scream, behind my mask.
I can’t get angry right now since I can’t afford to lose this precious opportunity that I was given within a single day.
“Fine. I will get ready, then.”
I stared at Oledin’s back as he left the room after leaving with an arrogant smirk and an expression saying “that’s what I thought”. It was then when I was filled with the thought of wanted to unmask his incompetence.
